QUETTA: Twenty-three decomposed bodies have been found in various areas of Panjgur district in the past month, according to a senior official, requesting anonymity.
One case involved a decomposed body of a young man being found dumped near a seasonal river of Panjgur district late on Tuesday night. It was the second decomposed body found dumped in Panjgur during the last 48 hours.
A passersby spotted a body near the river and informed the police. The body was taken to state-run hospital of Panjgur where it was identified as 22-year-old Waseemur Rehman.
“He was brutally tortured before he was shot dead. The body was a week old and bears multiple marks of torture and bullet wounds,” medics at the hospital said. The body was identified through an ID card. Waseem was abducted by unidentified persons a week ago from the outskirts of Panjgur.
Police in Khairpur also found a bullet-riddled body late Tuesday night that was later identified as missing person Ahmed Khan Marri who was shot in the head.
Panjgur police on Monday found the decomposed body of Mujahid from the river.
“Parts of the body were eaten by wild animals,” medics said. “At least 21 decomposed dead bodies were brought during the month of October and several bodies were decomposed beyond recognition,” official sources said.
“The only common finding on the body was that it bore multiple marks of brutal torture,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity. He said all the victims were residents of Panjgur.
There have been no investigations into these killings as police have yet to identify a single person responsible for these killings.
According to the Voice for Baloch Missing persons (VFBMP), as many as 153 decomposed dead bodies so far have been found dumped in different parts of Balochistan since the nationalist government came into power in May 2013. VFBMP also said more than 400 people went missing.
